Training Camp video 2014
Neda el Món organises a traditional activity in order to improve your efficiency at open water swimming: a 3 days’ stay at the Crol Centre of Calella (Barcelona). There will be open water swimming sessions as well as sessions at the swimming pool. There will also be some sessions about nutrition, recovering, stretching, and training outside the water… . All these activities are aimed at improving your skills. You will stay at a double room and all the meals are included. The cost is only 195€! You can’t miss it!
Services
- Two nights’ stay in a double room at the Bernat Hotel, at the centre of Calella, at just one minute walk of the Crol Centre of Calella.
- Full board at the Bernat Hotel from Friday evening till Sunday midday.

Objectives
Our main objective is to make the swimmers aware of all the elements of a preparation for such a challenge as open water swimming.
During the three days of the Training Camp, we will try to find some norms which allow the swimmers to learn how to improve their specific techniques as well as their physical condition. We will try to get as close as possible to reach their personal aims for the 2017 season. In order to improve their performance, we will also have a look at other important aspects of preparation for such a challenge, like injury prevention and specific nutrition.
These are the elements of the Training Camp:
1. Open Water Swimming:
Objectives:
- Knowledge of the different Training Systems (aerobic and anaerobic) to improve General Physical Condition.
- Try out different training methods for open water swimming so as to increase Strength and Resistance.
- Get individual progress at the specific open water swimming technique
Contents:
- Description of the different training systems (aerobic and anaerobic).
- Description and practice of the training methods for open water swimming as to develop Strength.
- Description and practice of the training methods for open water swimming as to develop Resistance.
- Most important aspects of the specific open water swimming techniques.
- Practice of specific exercises with the purpose of improving open water swimming techniques.
- Importance of improving specific swimming techniques to achieve better results.
- Relation between the improvements of technique, Strength and Resistance and the achievement of long distance challenges
Activities:
- Presentation of the concept of general physical preparation (45min).
- Presentation of the concept of specific open water training (1hour15min).
- Specific swimming training session at the sea (2hours).
- Specific swimming training sessions at the swimming pool (6 hours).
2. Nutrition for open water swimmers:
Objectives:
- Become aware of the importance of the nutrition at the preparation of an open water swimmer.
- Analyze the influence of a diet (nutrition and supplements) on the preparation of big and small challenges at open water swimming.
- Expose the basic points to achieve a balanced nutrition which will result in a better performance of the swimmer.
Contents:
- Introduction to sport nutrition.
- Explanation of the distinct nutrition characteristics of open water swimming.
- Importance of digestion at the swimmer’s physical preparation.
- Analysing of the different stages (pre-season, competitive and post-season) of the preparation of a challenge, related to nutrition.
- Importance of the nutrition the day of the crossing.
- Nutrition adapted to each swimmer individually in order to achieve the challenge.
Activities:
- Presentation of the concepts (45min).
- Description of real situations based on sportsmen who followed the treatment (30min).
- A conversation about personal experiences of those present and a possibility to work out their doubts (45min).
3. TRX: Dry land workout
Objectives:
- Discovering alternative training systems for open water swimming.
- Bring forward new trends related to open water swimmers’ physical preparation.
Contents:
- Importance of the coordination between the dry training and the specific water training of the swimmer.
- The main sets of muscles that must be developed during the swimmer’s training.
- TRX application during the swimmer’s physical preparation.
- Self-loading exercise as a way of training the swimmer’s Strength.
- Concentric, eccentric and isometric exercises to improve the Strength.
- The importance of flexibility to improve performance.
Activities:
- Presentation of the concepts to be developed (30min).
- Practice of TRX and self-loading exercises (1hour).
- Practice of flexibility exercises and other exercises (30min).
4. Physical activity and health (injury prevention):
Objectives:
- Explain the main long distance swimmer’s injuries and what causes them.
- Propose healthy ways which avoid injuries during the open water swimmers’ preparation.
Contents:
- Relation between a better physical condition and health.
- An open water swimmer’s diseases.
- Treatment of shoulder tendonitis and of epicondylitis (tennis elbow).
- How to avoid the open water swimmer’s typical injuries.
- A swimmer’s sport rehabilitation.
Activities:
- Presentation of the concepts (45min).
- Description of real situations based on sportsmen who followed the treatment (30min).
- A conversation about personal experiences of those present and a possibility to work out their doubts (45min).
